Режиссёр и продюсер более чем 100 фильмов в эпоху немого кино. Начинал как актёр и первые роли играл с 1910 года в фильмах кинокомпании «Lubin Manufacturing Company». В 1912 году он продолжил карьеру в кинокомпании «Thanhouser Company», где снял большинство своих фильмов, во многих из которых исполнял главные роли. После ухода из «Thanhouser Company» в 1916 году, он работал в разных компаниях как режиссёр и продюсер, в первую очередь в «Paramount Pictures» с 1918 по 1938 год.
